I love the Book of Mormon because it makes sense to me. - Most people think that the only history of God’s dealings with men is the Bible, yet there have been so many more people on the earth than just the Hebrew nation and it makes sense to me that there would be more records.
- In a court of law, the testimony of two witnesses is powerful proof. It makes sense to me that God would provide two witnesses of his Son, His gospel, and His plan of happiness for us so that there would be no doubt. The Book of Mormon serves as that second witness to the Holy Bible and was brought forth, through the power of God, as part of the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ to the earth.
- When I read the Book of Mormon, I know that an uneducated young man in his early 20’s could never have written such a book. I can 'hear' the voices of the different prophets who did write the book. Joseph Smith records that the original plates were given to him by Moroni, the last prophet to write on the plates, and that he was given the means to translate the plates into English by the power of God. When I read the Book of Mormon, I believe him and conclude that he was a true prophet of God, called to be God's instrument in restoring Christ's church back to the earth after a long period of apostasy. I have felt the still, small, voice of the Holy Ghost confirm that truth to me.
"When ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." (Moroni 10:4,5 on page 529 of the Book of Mormon)There is the promise to ALL of God's children. Read the Book of Mormon and get on your knees and sincerely ask Heavenly Father if it is true record and He will answer your prayers and you will recognize it for what it is: personal revelation from God to you through the Holy Ghost. When you know that it is a true book of scripture, then you know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that he saw all that he said he saw (see the blog about the First Vision).
